Health and Safety For Business

for most businesses, Health and Safety presents a challenge.

The options are:

  • Do nothing - ignore it and hope it will go away.
  • Wait till something goes wrong and then deal with it.
  • Deal with it in a simple, cost-effective way which will help your business to become more profitable.

Unfortunately, the first option isn't really an option because people are being encouraged by the "No win, no fee!" advertisements to sue their employer.

Get it wrong and it could cost you plenty.

Also, there is an increasing level of legislation to try to force employers to comply. A recent blitz by the Health and Safety Executive in the construction industry was reported in the press as resulting in one business in three being closed down.

If you have more than five employees, you must have a written safety policy, access to competent safety advice and risk assessments. If you are a controller of premises, then you also have a number of specific responsibilities for those premises. There are also specialised responsibilities associated with construction.

The second option could also be expensive. If you wait until things have gone wrong, then you will not have the evidence to hand to defend yourself in the event of action by the Health and Safety Executive. At worst this could result in you receiving a prison sentence.

The final option is the only practicable one. We can provide a service based either on a fixed fee or a day rate which will enable you to meet your responsibilities cost-effectively.
